Christian Marclay, often known as the “unwitting inventor of turntablism” has his latest installation 2822 Records (PS1), 1987-2009, a site-specific floor-based installation of vinyl records on display at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York this fall.
Consisting entirely of 12-inch records of every musical genre and style, Marclay’s installation highlights the experiential qualities of music and vinyl recording by inviting visitors to walk on the artwork.
David Byrne praised Marclay’s installation, commenting that “for a record lover, the experience is a kind of sacrilege – and that’s the point.”
